Hello Bronco fans!
Time (actually past time) to return to Bronco football blogging. Unfortunately, that will probably be in a somewhat limited capacity, but to make it up to you, my dad and I are presenting the Bronco Overdrive podcast. We have just finished our second episode. Listen Here.
If you like it, feel free to subscribe via iTunes!
That's all for now, but check back after the scrimmage on Friday for my thoughts.

Welcome Back, OBNUG!
Well everyone, in case you hadn't heard (which is highly unlikely) OBNUG has officially returned today, joining forces with SB Nation and Fight Fight BSU to make the off season that much more bearable.
If you're reading my site you have probably been following this pretty closely already, just thought I post that the world has once again righted itself.
On OBNUG's new site (again, if you haven't seen it, what are you still doing here?) they posted their free e-book, Boise State Fanual. I've already read it through twice. It is a must read for true Bronco fans, and I must confess that I learned some very valuable lessons from this book, on how to be a better fan, and a better maniac in general. Oh, and I must join OBNUG in an adamant protest against anyone wearing pink Bronco apparel. Anyone ashamed to wear the Blue and Orange has not earned the privilege of being a 'fan'.
One last thing before I go. I do plan (eventually) to make a few posts on OBNUGS Fanposts section, so keep your eye out for me there. Until next time (may or may not be a while) I bid you a fond farewell.

Blue and Orange Game
Well, somewhere the memo that Coach Pete should have sent me, informing me that the Blue and Orange Game wasn't going to be like the other two scrimmages got lost. Because I didn't hear about it till last week. A week after I made a commitment for the night of April 17th.
I figured, I've been to two scrimmages, the Blue and Orange game is no different. That's when Coach Pete decides to change it to a much more interesting sounding format, and make it an actual game. *sigh* That's what I get for compromising on a scrimmage night.
So, needless to say, I won't be there. No matter how fun a Blue vs. White game, with drafted players and mock injuries, sounds, I have to miss it.
However, I can still speculate about it, and my dad will tell me about it, so I won't be completely out of the loop. At the moment, I am going to say that the Blue team wins by a field goal. A couple of devastating 'injuries' are going to turn this game into a nail-biter. However, I would never underestimate the underdog mentality of the White team. They will be coming in looking to prove that they are just as good as the 'stars' on the Blue team.
Should be a good game, and I hope that everybody who goes has good weather and a good game to enjoy.

Spring Scrimmage
For those of us who were able to skip out of work and make it to the scrimmage, we were treated to a rather more interesting scrimmage than usual.
Now, I would never say so, but it is a fact that scrimmages can be a bit... slow. This one bordered on too exciting. I'm all for good heart-pumping Boise State offense, but not necessarily at the expense of the Boise State defense. Obviously this is because of the amazing awsomeness of the Bronco offense. The injuries on D could have something to do with it as well.
Kellen Moore looked average. Which is to say that he was great. Drew Hawkins made some really nice throws, too. He also seemed to be able to do something with his feet if he had to. Overall, he'd have my vote over Coughlin for backup QB this fall (As of now). I've got nothing against Coughlin, but he just seemed really inconsistent.
Now, I hate to admit it, but I really don't know what to do at scrimmages. And I really don't think anyone else does either. When a running back looses yards, you could either be depressed, or you can cheer enthusiastically for the defense. It's the same when you get a huge offensive gain. Your first instinct is to jump up and down cheering, but at the same time, you are sobered by the fact that it was your defense that gave up the yardage. I think that's why the crowd has come to the conclusion that polite clapping is the proper response to a good play. Unless it is spectacular, in which case, a few scattered cheers are required.
Now, I hate to admit it, but I paid less attention to the defense than I should have. I noticed Daryl Acrey making some good plays, as well as some of the D-linemen. Considering that they are quite injury depleted, the D-line did pretty well. You could tell that the whole defense is struggling a bit with injuries.
Garcia Day gets the award for hit of the day, with a bone cruncher on freshmen running back Matt Kaiserman (Good) who looked like he may have banged his wrist up during the tackle (Bad).
Brandyn Thompson had a really nice kick off return. And the running backs (minus Jeremy Avery, who did not dress) had a nice day. Kaiserman had some nice runs, as did some of the other young guys. The O-line is pretty banged up right now as well, so I think it will be awhile until the run game picks up momentum.
While I was there, I broke out the big lens on our camera, and got some pretty good pics. Here are some of the best. (Yes, I took a lot.)

PS. I seem to be having some difficulties with the media in my header and sidebar. I should have it fixed soon though.

Pro Day
Well, eleven Broncos showed up to strut their stuff for the NFL scouts, on St. Patrick's Day.
Standout among them was Ian Johnson (no surprise there). He improved his time on the three-cone drill, posting a time which would have placed him fifth at the combine (up from eighth). He wisely chose to opt out of the 40 yard dash, choosing to stick with his extremely impressive Combine time of 4.46 seconds. The coach, himself, was impressed with Ian's strength and speed. Add to that the solid character he has, and you've got yourself a winner.
Jeremy Childs was able to make up for a so-so Combine performance, putting up a more characteristic 40 time.
Also making a surprising appearance was former standout fullback, Jon Helmandollar. Although my remembrances of 2004 and earlier are vague at best, even I remember him. It sounds like he may be ready to put some of the rough things he's dealt with behind him, and start over. For my part, I hope he gets a chance somewhere.
Now, there's nothing to do but wait.

College Dropout
If the Idaho Statesman, and the Boulder Daily Camera are to be believed, the Broncos are not going to be headed to Toledo this upcoming year.
I can hear the Hallelujah chorus.
However, who will be replacing them has yet to be decided. There was talk (Ok, well it was only Chadd Cripe) of a possible outing against Rutgers or Mississippi. But the latest news suggests that Gene the Machine is considering exchanging one MAC school for another. Who's up for going to Bowling Green again? Talk about an anti-climax.
Now, I don't want to be too hard on our dear AD, but certainly now that we have an opening, it would be a perfect time to seek out another BCS team to qualify for that lovely bonus in his new contract. Wouldn't it? Someone did tell him about that, didn't they? The last thing we need is to make more commitments to the MAC, who is known across the country for breaking contracts. Plus, rumor has it, that playing two BCS teams (In the same year!) increases your strength of schedule.
Maybe Gene hasn't heard that one either.

Bye, Bye, Bellotti.
When the Broncos play Oregon in the season opener, they will be facing off against an Oregon team lead by the former OC, Chip Kelly.
Not that this will have too much impact on the outcome of the game. It simply adds an excuse for whiny Oregon fans to use after their record against us drops to 0-2. On the up side, we get to see if Kelly is a more graceful loser than Bellotti was.
Should be an interesting match up we have going here.
Despite my cavalier attitude, I am a little apprehensive about this opener with Oregon. The last three years we've had a lovely warm up game before any real tests, but we won't have that luxury this year. However, it's a bit early for a game preview, no matter how much I wish the season was here.
In other area that are actually related to Boise State, the Idaho Statesman is officially terrible at Spring Ball coverage. There hasn't been an article since Wednesday! I'm tossing around the idea of finding a comfortable tree by the Boise River, and seeing out how things are going for myself.
Oh, and to the surprise of no one, the Boise State basketball team lost to NMSU yesterday. But that's nothing. They already dropped the two most important games of the season.
Go Broncos! Yes, even you, basketball team.
